The University for Development Studies (UDS), Ghana, has etched its name in football history by winning the 2025 FISU World University Football Tournament in Dalian, China.
In a thrilling final against Paulista University of Brazil, UDS overcame an early setback when a defensive error gifted their opponents the fastest goal of the tournament. But the Ghanaian side fought back with relentless determination, dominating much of the play.

Their persistence paid off in the 85th minute, when skipper Mohammed Asigre equalized, sending the match into extra time. Then, in dramatic fashion, UDS sealed victory in the 120th minute as a corner from Ezideen was misjudged by the Brazilian goalkeeper, giving Ghana a historic 2-1 win.
This triumph makes UDS not only the first Ghanaian university, but also the first African university, to lift the World University Football title delivering Ghana’s first global football trophy since the Black Satellites’ U-20 World Cup victory in 2009.
From Tamale to the world.
